Tolerance

Tolerance is learned and intolerance the same. Parents of impressionables, don't be the ones to blame For making racism and others, a means to spread your hate Or your child may find it very hard his "isms" to negate. This world is growing quite compact, you soon may meet them all, The despised whom you chose to scorn and victims of your gall. He could be your new employer or perhaps your president. This could take your confidence so far, you'll wonder where it went. Intolerance is degrading and not worth the price you pay. So let's turn to true acceptance and live in a brighter day. Hello Joyce! I'm afraid many children become racist because of the bad example set in the home. No amount of teaching in school is strong enough to counter that. Congrats on your win! // paul

Amen, Joyce!! Children often do get these "isms" from their parents. Although I'm not happy with his policies in office, I was delighted to see an African American elected president. Her in the South, the "isms" are more widespread than in other parts of the country. Excellent poem and I'm sure it will be a winner in the contest. Love you and your poetry, Carolyn
