Yes, he broke my heart, but not the usual way With tender words, he made my poor heart sway Each chamber beamed with his adoring smile That chased the demons, made my life worth while He broke my heart…. My heart was callous, filled with dirt and grime Its walls all hardened by betrayal’s crime And there he was a blazing ray of light That came into my heart and made things right He broke my heart… He bathed each wall with sympathizing tears And made me feel the joy of youthful years He made of me of a woman, blooming fair Oh how he glorified my raven hair He broke my heart…. He broke down each defense that I set up And gave parched lips a drink from lover’s cup He loved my body, and adored my mind And vowed my beauty was the rarest kind He broke my heart…. He broke my heart, he broke my every care He broke the chains that had me in despair He broke my silence, and he made me sing He broke my crutch and gave me angel wing He broke my heart… And in the breaking, love gushed out from me In deluge of romance and constancy Renewed, refreshed, revived from broken dreams He broke my heart and bathed it in his streams He broke my heart…. A PS, the line should have read "exquisite joy" my apologies. However since I am here again I say the work is one of the best things I have seen on soup, your quill weaves pure magic on on the parchment. Love again Shane xxx

This is so wonderous Eileen. I had never thought of turning the words broken my heart into the joy of freeing a heart that is chained. You have penned it so brilliantly each barrier you have encased your heart with broken down one by one. You are renewed your heart free and "bathed in his streams". What a extant and joy it must be to find a love able to break your heart and set it free. You are a true poetess my enchantress In favs and 7 Love Shane xxx

Wow! This is beautiful, Eileen! This sounds like a song of joy of life, free of pain and delusion. It shows that darkest clouds can split open to reveal a blue sky...where love can breathe anew. This is a fav for me! hugs // paul

I will never look at a broken heart again in the same way. This is a truly lovely piece Eileen. You possess a most amazing instrument and I love being immersed in the music which flows from your heart.

:) Richard, so good to have you here on this poem. It does my heart good. I thought I would give it a different twist to the usual concept of broken hearts. When someone is not used to overwhelming tenderness...it has a tendency to melt everything. Surprisingly, it is a little frightening as well. One feels out of one's element and unsure of how to react. Thank you for being a constant here for me. Blessings.

Continued...this poem's hope is so cleverly refined, so subtle in love's heroic reconstruction Eileen. Initially I tought it was about a heart devastated by love...it is no such thing! This is the most ingenius flip of a metaphor I've ever beheld...a heart broken, cleansed, redeemed, rediscovering the youth of pure passion...this is a masterpiece of hope and love! "He broke my heart and bathed it in his streams..." so beautiful my Beloved Poetess...J.A.B.

As for "clever"...Oh, I'm very competitive academically. Got to have those A grades. Ok...just to brag a bit, I got an A+ in one of my exams in the MA coursework. Two questions which required 8 pages of writing and I pulled an A+... ;) Now...as to your "ingenious flip of a metaphor" comment...well, that's pure brilliance, my dear. You tickle words like no other... Beloved Poetess is please. You've been good. ;) Hugs

A heart's stubborn shell, thickened and sickened by a cruel world's senseless wrath finally broken and shed by a companion who saw the purpose to your grief...who believes in your goodwill...who knows that angels sometimes bleed and rage...a man who knows his love is her medicine...an angel that lives to share her passion and gaurd her awesome, and fragile beauty...once more the genius of your heart shines in how you describe the renewal of a toughened heart Eileen...J.A.B.

Hello Handsome Eagle/Angle! ;) So you've come to visit....What an honor! Tenderness gets me every time, Justin. A gentle sweet tenderness can break any barrier that one erects around the heart. I'm so glad you liked this piece. It just flowed right out of me....Thanks for the visit, and for your kindness to me. You make me feel young and pretty. What a gift.

Lovely dear Little One, this one caught me off-guard, from the title I was expecting something else from a broken heart! May we all experience this type of broken heart . . . "renew, refresh, revive " yes, yes, and yes . . . I want all this. Brings new meaning from what my high school coach used to say -- "No pain, no gain!!" Still remember that after . . . well a few years anyway. Your words lifted my heart . . . such are your powers . . .fav

Tenderness and adoration that is different to the norm could very easily break a heart, David. It can even bring doubt. One who is not used to a deluge will easily get drowned. This is a sweet breaking. I must admit. Thank you for visit, my dear. Knowing that I have such powers makes me happy. Hugs

Thank you, Jan. I purposefully didn't put a name there. I'm not joining the contest, but I thought I'd write a different type of message. There are so many poet here who have been so good to me and have nurtured me along the way. I'm not going to divulge names....it is left to the imagination. Paul is one of my ABSOLUTE FAVORITE poets here. :) Hugs
