To My Father

As we bought the three-storied house With our dreams and desires To provide him a serene life. But it broke our hearts to lose him. But Dad, did not go alone A part of us went with him The day God called him home. To feel his presence all the time We hang his picture in the formal room To keep him with us. For four decades, we thought of him In silence repeated his name All that was left for an answer Was his picture in the frame. As once upon a time His picture was in the frame But now picture is decayed Due to the sands of time. But the memories still remain. There is a vacancy in the frame Not sure, my picture will fit in As my time comes.

Hi Dr.Ram: I was finally able to open up the soup mail you sent me regarding your two poems, "To my father" and "A bawdy limerick". My first sentence commented on your fathers poem and my second sentence commented on your bawdy limerick poem. I was not referring to your fathers poem as being vulgar. Please forgive my poor verbiage.

Dr. Mehta, love the thought of if your picture will fit in the frame, as we would suggest, trying to fill his shoes.. Congratulations on your win with such a lovely tribute to your father.. Hugs.. Arlene

Dear Dr. Ram, this is such a beautifully written dedication to your father. I was very touched by the poem, especially when you said he didn't go alone because, "A part of us went with him." This is so true. I hope the large portrait of my father is not weathered by time until after I'm gone. It makes me think he's still with me. Best wishes in the contest, Carolyn (Thanks for reading my Sijo on Elaine. Means more than you can imagine.)
