Through Cobwebs and Dust
I climbed the aging stairs
to the quaint room of lavender and dream
through decrepit cobwebs and blackened dust
I began to search in a pressing need
For, in this room of distant memories
my heart cried out to relive
a time, a place
of beauty abound
where gracious words I embraced
I pulled the age old book
from a forgotten box of yesteryear
with cracked leather
and auburn pages
I could taste the innocence of youth
I began to read the story
of a boy's adventure at the mere age of eight
a story of the Monarch Butterfly
and the flight of freedom's gate
I peered from the small window
past the aging pane and dust
I cleared the webs of silk
and I began to dream of love
I leaped in heavy breath
and ran toward the lake
where, I met a wondrous Monarch
and in flight he took me away
Upward past the clouds
fluttering amid heavens gate
for a moment I lived eternity
in ethereal colors I was draped
We paused and circled one last time
then headed back to the lake
he laid me down in emerald grass
as my eyes slowly waked
Within my spirit a song rang out
and the soft wind touched my face
I pulled the curtain
and brushed the sill
and headed downstairs in grace
For, in one moment, I did dare dream
a place, a flight......I did believe........
