The truth stood downcast in the lie
So lost from the will to stay strong
From hope left to languish and sigh
Like notes left to sing in my song
Deceit mocked the voice of my heart
The truth stood downcast in the lie
When virtue and due played no part
With no care that honor must die
If pride offered no reason why
To live by my own sense of debt
The truth stood downcast in the lie
While love would not bid thee forget
My soul left in turmoil and strife
From no tear left spent from my eye
As purpose takes leave of this life
The truth stood downcast in the lie
