The Request

I crawled out of night like a cocoon Feeling the sun on a crinkled skin Waiting to grow wings And tour the heavens soon And suddenly when I thought The night is history now There was this shadow, this presence Blocking the sun like a form of bigger wings I had to flinch That is, I crawled back into myself So that had some distance away from it I needed distance not only to protect me But to give adavantage to vision For we cannot see thinggs when they are right up in our face Causing us to blink I saw it then, the shadow Suddenly becoming a bird, a huge predator Even of other birds And I shuddered and wondered why Men should be born if only to live and die What was the point of living For we die even before we know what life is Or the whole meaning of it We live like a frenzy on a stage A blabbering of the brain And despite of all of that I wondered if the bird had a cage While slobbered the poison over my skin And waited in quieted rage I have no intention of dying alone Have lived my life in loneliness so much Lord, let me die with you.
