The Reincarnated Inchworm

Inchworm, Inchworm,
How your mossy green complexion
matches the color of a newborn leaf!

So frail and easily swayed,
You desperately hold onto
that one lonely blade of grass
with every strength in your being!

Why are you clinging to that
disheveled tree branch as if
it were the last one in existence?
Are you holding on for dear life or
do you just want to let go but can't?

c2013 Julie Rasley

---a poem about nature's splendor and mankind's stupidity
