The Lost Generation
The lost generation.
You see the blank stare
in their eyes,
just blank
completely non-existent
feelings...
except for
despair.
You see them
but they are not there.
They dare
not dream
or
have any hope
as they feel that
their dreams
will not
come true
anyway.
So they
cut themselves
with razors...
they watch
as the blood flows..
that's how they know...
that they're alive.
That's how they
can feel alive...
before they die...
die too soon.
They smoke the weed
they smack the crack
to dull the pain
the sharp pain...
of life's reality
to escape
for a while...
so that
they can
feel something...
Anything!
Before they die!
Die too soon!
They ink their bodies,
they dye their hair
pink and
green
and blue,
they try to shock you
with their tattoos...
they pierce their faces
an act of pure defiance
Saying
Hey look at me!
I dare you!
So what do you do?
You look...
and say...
"you won't get a job
looking like that don't you know"!
They reply
"There aren't any jobs
any more
don't you know"...
