Monday 25th November 2013 - a date ingrained in my brain forever This was the start of a trip of a lifetime for me, a voyage of discovery For it was on this day I wrote my very first poem 'Splendid Isolation' I look back on my words but I wouldn’t change a single one How I wish my husband had never got cancer and needed surgery, but then my journey into writing would never have started. I have had my ups and downs Good times and bad now my trusty pen is forever by my side A constant companion - with me every step of the way I have learned so much, not only about writing, but about me… I have an inner strength I never knew existed Creativity that has lain dormant for many years like a volcano Now words flow from my pen and erupt onto the page Writing poetry is a journey I never want to end Contest: The Journey Begins Sponsor Matt Caliri Entered into The day that changed my life forever in a positive way Sponsored by Cindi Rockwell 11~14~15

I just learned so much about you. You turned to writing as therapy during a scary and confusing time - mayhap you never felt such need until your husband was ill. I've always wondered how you discovered you 'could' without knowing before that you 'should', and this makes perfect sense. Your pen is joy to many people, including me ... CayCay

Aww thanks CayCay. I'd not written a poem since I was at school then when Bob was having his surgery I penned 'Splendid Isolation' and the rest as they say is history lol:-) Hugs Jan xx

An ancient Greek saying was this:" There is no bad thing that doesn't contain something good within it" " Ouden Kakon, amiges kalou" Happy for you that your path have found. Hope your muse will never leave your side, dear Jan!

My muse does desert me from time to time Demetrios and then soup takes a back seat but I never dreamed my husband's cancer would bring me such joy:-) hugs Jan xx

all that flows from the pen....is the wisdom from within....many times it is unknown until we see it on the page....all the great writers have left themselves amazed....that certain creations manifest as they do....creativity unleashed on the inspirations we are mused through....;)

Bravo Jan, well said! Your poem has captured the spirit of “poetry" with words that awaken the creative soul that dwells in the hearts of most people, which through neglect has been allowed to remain dormant far too long. Emile.

Hello Jan, Your poetry is always a distinct pleasure to read with your serious moments, humor, and fun. I agree with absolutely with your final verse: "Writing poetry is a journey I never want to end." I believe all of us as Poets can fully relate to those moving words. I agree with Silent One about the evil of cancer. It killed my father in the USA in 1975, and I'm a survivor of it since 2010 when I received my initial diagnosis. (I guess this means I understand.) A (7)!! Best Wishes, Gary

Jan, I understand. "Writing" for me is a glorious and powerful medicine. (Keeping our brains active, helps to keep our spirits focused and on a positive track.) At least this is my take. Best Weekend Wishes, Gary
