The Hike

GPS coordinates meticulously verified simplicity on paper *kakiebos oil dabbed on cuffs of socks ticks held at bay a pebble in your hiking boot – a worrying stone withered fruit clings to a wizened branch memories crowd in fruit bats dart against a painted sky night sighs tinned fruit the bowie knife skewers a peach mosquitoes more lethal than forest life a tuft of fur on the electric fence to keep nature safe hiking boots chafe inside the sleeping bag scorpions outwitted black coffee clamorous call louder than a cock's crow
• Kakiebos (Tagetes minuta) is a weed common in South Africa. The oil extract is used to dispel ticks and fleas and it is often used by hikers. Inspired by Charles Henderson's contest.

Suzette, An interesting series on a place I'd love to visit. You might like my haiku series Kananaskis. Cheers Dave
