The Happy Children

Since fall, they’ve stayed where they had first been put away from human view beneath the earth. Through chill of winter, longing to take root, they lie, dear tender babes, awaiting birth. Snow melts into the ground and down comes rain. The unborn infants hear the pattering and feel the warmth when Sun, aroused again, shines brightly forth to welcome sister Spring. Their lovely colored heads all in a row emerge by end of March from Mother’s womb. How fleet the time each child then takes to grow. How brief the span of each sweet Tulip’s bloom! Each year reborn, they’re twofold. . . mourn them not. More’s the merrier. . . they’re a happy lot! April 6, 2012

You took me on an interesting ride with this one. With the first few lines I thought this was going to be about murder or something. And then it became sort of a fantasy metaphor towards growing up, with the coming of the warmer season. It is most original!

Ah, the gestation period of the tulip! Very clever personification, Andrea! They do so look like "a happy lot!":) A clever way to add life to this time frame. Oh, I have no tulips, but the woman across from us does! I will look at them thinking that they have much endurance! Best wishes, Mikki

There is just one in my mom's garden. It blooms with pride each spring. Now that she's gone my heart won't harden. That tulip reminds me we were born to sing.

I did enjoy this and know how difficult it can be to find the words for the image in your head then to fit it to the rhyme scheme. Well done you!
