The Grand Finale

Atop a mountain there was a man Who sat politely with folded hands Awaiting the day his love would come But day after day no vis'tors; none, But a lone bird who carried a note, And on the paper its message wrote: "I know that you have waited so patient And for that I am truly sorry To have to end a love so ancient But someone else now calls me darling. I could not think of another way That would end it the way that I see fit So I wrote this message just to say I'm sorry it had to end this way." So the man climbed down from his high peak And of what he thought he would not speak He had chose to be the bigger man He had chose to turn the other cheek While his love was held too high for reach For her love he would not beseech His descent into the grand finale Would bestow upon him heartbreak valley
