The Gospel Truth
The Gospel Truth

It never lasts forever
Not upon this earth we share
A wife or husband leaves us
It's so hard to shake despair
Religion makes us hopeful
But that's still a world away
We'd like a quick solution
To propel us through those days
That once had special meaning
Celebrating Christmastime
For now, it's a reminder
Of the pain we've stored inside
Perhaps a pet will comfort
And new hobbies can distract
Or visiting the places
We would go if they were back
Awakening the memories
Of the many joys we shared
Will honor those who left us
And surcease their own despair
For if you think about it
Had you been the first to go
Your rest could not be peaceful
If your love was suff'ring so
To serve a dual purpose
Never leave your past behind
But savor what is left you
And let nothing cloud your sky
Sure, it's "what they would have wanted"
An expression often used
And there's a reason for it
Frankly, it's the Gospel truth
