The Good I Want To Do
For what I want to do, I do not do,
But what I hate I still do
How those words ring so true
For me and for you
How to break the cycle, how to be free
Is on the mind of both you and me
The answer so simple, it is in plain sight
Yet I feel so powerless to fight
It is not my own will power that will prevail
No, if it was I would have overcome long ago
It is a much stronger will, a will that does not fail
The power of that will, gives us the power to grow
But if I ignore that will
Then should I really expect to succeed?
Should I think that I will be freed?
No, but there is grace
So lift your face
Call out
Give a joyful shout
You can start again
No matter how far you have strayed
No matter how many times you’ve disobeyed
You can start anew
Do the things
You were meant to do
You can be exactly
Who you were meant to be
Day by day
Those things I hate
Can be stripped away
And little by little ill cease doing the evil
I do not want to do,
And start doing more of the good
That I want to do
How I pray for this to be true
For me and for you
