The Family

THE FAMILY Still came the child in all her energy and essence, her smell of nickel and pumpkin, of lavender and bay; in little songs she's hummed, in her oh so gentle play. A universe herself, before she landed here; in radiant lovely laughter and dropped inside a tear. Then he came too, a baby bunting blue, strong with sinew and happy in his plans, to dig and take apart; to see inside and quiz, and instruct his earnest heart. He came as daddy's hope, with a dream inside his head; he long created plans and the dream was always said. Lady mother, to them both, with soft and creamy skin; and breath to breathe inside herself to give to her and him. She married all in hope, for the best of happy times; and the joy that filled her eyes, she sung in blissful lilting rhymes. Man daddy, rugged as rock and quiet in his thought; could always love them all, for the secret that they brought. He found his life in her. She found her life in him; they laced in focus on their love and spirit kept within. Different in their worlds yet cozy in their minds; that safe would be their life, since that's the tie that binds. Looking up to God, then seeing in each face; their eyes are flecked with stardust, that came awhile from space. A family in a dream, too tiny to be seen; to great to know it's process in the galaxies routine. By: Edlynn Nau Contest: Your Favorite Poem Sponsor: Judy Konos Placed: FIRST PRIZE

How did I miss this? It is sheer beauty and poetry, deep meaning so wonderfully and, truly poetically spoken. I love this and I'm putting it in my favs. Your reaction to Silent One reminds me of my first win - home alone, but jumping up and down. You deserve this win, it is a great poem ... CayCay

Thank you Michael. A REAL surprise to me! See I write about love. I'm just not blatant about it. Although, recently, I've done some that are all out there. Ha! I'm sure this to shall pass. It's so great to see you on! HELLO MICHAEL you rock star!

Edlynn: Bravo. Well done. I feel enriched. America needs reminding we are loosing touch with "the family unit" with our heads down and our thumbs doing our talking. It is surely the greatest problem facing our nation today. Thanks again for sharing your work with us. oldbuck

I am genuinely surprised that this poem, more than any, is getting the notice. I have heard from others, not apart of PS, that this brings tears to their eyes...and why? I'm shocked and surprised by this reaction to a "celebration" of the family. I'm coming to understand that Mom, Dad, Sister, Brother are all very much missed. That this is symbolically the Norman Rockwell Family that we haven't seen since the 19th & 20th Century, that began to fade away after the 1950's. I was so blessed to be raised in this family archetype and TO TRY to raise my daughter (unsuccessfully) in the same manner (b/c my husband died of cancer when she was 10) & with the same traditions. I was unaware, & unprepared for this reaction! It has many of hits yet, is not a Favorite. So, it might not resonate as much as evoke feelings of nostalgia! I'm still a little bit in wonder over the reactions...all of them.

Thank you Pandita! I'm such a neophyte that I'm hoping a 7 is a good thing! Ha ha! Otherwise...back to the drawing board with me {:-) I ALWAYS read the poetry of those that take the time to read mine AND ACTUALLY comment. So I will be visiting your poetry. Thank you so much!

Thank you! I will be by to read more of your poetry too! Isn't this fun? One really gets the feel of the poet and an idea of who the poet is, just by reading lots & lots of their poetry! We DO give ourselves away in these sometimes subtle, translucent words. It's hard to hide behind a poem!
