The Fall of a Wall

The GDR put up a wall in ‘61 because they wanted West Berlin kept out. A wall of shame it was! In fact, the West more easily could travel all about while Eastern Germans were the ones from freedom routes locked out. The wall was guarded. Some were killed while struggling to flee. The Cold War only made folks yearn more strongly to be free. To Gorbachev, one president implored: Tear down that wall! It wasn’t too much longer that it would begin to fall! I felt the joy they felt abroad when crumbling had begun. November ninth, in ‘89 Berlin again was one!

Congratulations on this second place win Andrea. I also rejoyced when the wall was brought down and we have a rock from it framed on our wall so the memory will keep fresh in the minds of our later generations of family. Your poem was powerful and l want to print it out to be included with our little piece of the wall. Brava!

You are really good at 'historical strokes' too... A free modern world; but getting chaotic day by day. ... Good luck in the contest.

That was a great day, Andrea! Not just for Berliners but for the whole free world, thanks to Pres. Reagan...this important act confirms again, that each of us is called to do great things...sometimes not as big as this, but even the small acts, affects our world, somehow! Great topic to write about for Craig's contest! Great job! A winner for sure! Love, Annalise

We build em' high, we tear them down. It's not a wonder, we feel a clown. But that's how mankind's always been. We play the game, but seldom win. Triumph of the human spirit. Maybe someday we all will hear it. :)
