The Colorblind Poet

The poet’s eyes, a glorious azure blue They grace his face, these flecks of splendid sky Yet blind to color and to every hue A truth that makes her sigh and good deny How can in beauty imperfection be? How can he write of rainbow colors bright? Why must he stay unable now to see? Kaleidoscope of colors bathed in light Lilac and mint and plum and baby blue Unseen by him she holds in high esteem She wishes for a miracle come true For him to see life’s colors in a dream Yet from this truth her soul does comfort glean Bright hues of rainbow in his words are seen Eileen Manassian Ghali Dedicated to Richard Lamoureux

When I was a kid I wore a shirt and pants I thought were blue, one day my sister asked me " why do you always wear that ugly purple shirt and pants?" I later found out I had gained the nickname Captain Purple. I am touched by the comments below. Thanks to all of you.

Someone should have been looking out for you, Richard.....To help....Captain Purple indeed. Had I been there and heard it...if they were teasing...I'd have set them straight....I'd have gone into Xena mode and set those giggly kids straight....Grrrrrrrrrr...They'd hear me ROAR....

aww this is a really lovely dedication, eileen; I love the use of colour within poetry and here you use it very appropriately...yes, it is amazing how someone who is colour blind can 'paint' so vividly with his words :)

It is, isn't it? He once wrote a poem about a lavender rose, and that's when I found out that he is colorblind by his comment....I can't believe he can't see the beauty of purple jacaranda trees in full bloom....Well, one day all will be right. I believe....My Mama had MS and in the end was wheelchair bound...unable to dress and feed herself, yet I know one day she will dance and sing and be whole. We have much to look forward to. Same with Richard...One day he will see all the colors! :) Thanks for the lovely post, my dear. Your latest poem did wonders for COLORS!

Hey girlfriend....He does, doesn't he? He has quite a few poems about colors....I wonder how how does it....Thanks for your lovely visit. I know you appreciate his work as well. It just pains me that he can't fully appreciate beauty in all its hues...Wish I could gift him colors instead of a poem....

Wow what a beautiful and sentimental tribute to our Rick, your last line says it, what He denies us in one way, He gives in another. Take care, Richard

He does that. When Paul asked that his infirmity be taken away from him (some believe he suffered from bad eyesight) the Lord said, "My grace is sufficient for you." Paul himself said, "When I am weak, then I am strong." Hmmmmmmmm......did you know he is my favorite Bible author? I ADORE PAUL. Thanks for your lovely comment, Mr Seal... I am so glad to have your visit! :)

Yes, MD...Richard has touched the hearts of many here. I'm so glad his faith is strong, and he accepts this limitation so well. It still pains me that he has to bear it. God knows what is best....and some others have much heavier burdens to bear. "My grace is sufficient for you." Jesus said....That goes for all of us, for we all have something amiss, don't we? Love you, you beautiful woman! Hugs!

Aww thanks Eileen, this is a sweet wish. I will one day see all the colors of the rainbow in heavenly magnificence. I think the way I experience yellow provides me of a glimpse of what I have to look forward too.

Ever since I first read in one of your posts that you are colorblind, it has sat heavy on my heart.... I started a poem months ago but the words wouldn't come out right...The sonnet gave me my medium to express to you my sorrow that you can't see the beauty of my favorite color...purple. Yes...one day you will see a burst of rainbow colors. Hope I'm there to see the wonder on your face....only by His grace.
