Stirred By Moments
Lately, summer nights growl louder
as ghastly images slither about,
wandering through mind's labyrinth
that my thoughts crawl upon the floor.
Who knows more than I
concerning all those memories
slowly dripping to accumulate
left to right of my eyelids,
just below sunken cheekbones
that rise up to dry away,
when reveries of her shadow bring
back a hazed mirage; when young love
replays its old tunes. Gradually, sparks
of imagination burst into minuscule lights;
phrases from shells on the beach, words
flooding through rear-view's mirror entice.
The sky grows more plump while each
cell in my body hungers for more pulses--
and while I need to understand how
this special moment can stir a hundred
portraits, there are no answers
each time the bedroom lamp goes out.
