Splendid Grace
She was a most splendid ship,
Moved on the high seas with
such elegant grace,
A tribute to her makers,
The human race....
Yet stark cold waters
Embrace her now,
Broken spine,
Shattered bow...
And little fishes
Her first class guests now...
Rusting iron hulk..
We wonder how....
The sea the enemy?
The sea the Queen?
Stronger than
Whatever's been?
We've much to learn...
Humility first...
Pride and arrogance,
A human curse...
I suppose it took
the sea
Well over a billion years
To be what it seems
A pool of eternal tears
No small feature is this
Upon this singular earth...
How many more such wonders
Did God birth?
No more questions,
No more doubt
It's there before us
It does almost shout...
"All This, and More...
I've left for you...
This sea so deep...
This sky so blue...
So if you doubt
My existence at all
Be prepared to take
The biggest fall!"
