Sometimes

Sometimes we live our lives To prove our critics wrong; Sometimes we go far too far To be where we do not belong. Sometimes we play the fool That peace might fairly reign; Sometimes we opt too soon For baseless choices not sane. Sometimes we fake a smile And appear as someone nice; Sometimes we shake hands Only for an agreed-upon price. Sometimes we go a long way For something not any dear; Sometimes we merry-go-round About a point clearly square. Sometimes we hide from what The blindest eyes could see; Sometimes we try our best But the worst it proves to be. Sometimes we say goodbye Not because we mean to part; Sometimes we want the end Yet afraid to engage the start. Sometimes we try to explain What no one may understand; Sometimes we tend to seek What may never be such found. Sometimes we seriously wish That every wrong was right; Sometimes true victory comes Only when we lose the fight. Sometimes we live in the shell Of all we would never have; Sometimes we fill our bellies And leave our spirits to starve. Sometimes we pose as one With whom everything is fine; Sometimes from the moon We expect sun rays to shine. Sometimes we know the truth But prefer to be fed on lies; Sometimes we fold our arms While something good dies. Sometimes we embrace foes In refrain from true friends; Sometimes we know our faults Yet careless to make amends.
