Sleepless
It's 2 AM and I can't sleep
on this rainy October night.
A fire burns brightly on the hearth
my home is snug and tight.
My mind is working overtime
and I wish it would slow down.
Drinking coffee by the pot
in this little mid west town.
My little dogs have both curled up
beside me on the chair.
My old tom cat is by the fire
grooming his long hair.
My loving wife is fast asleep
safe and sound in our big bed.
And here I am trying to write
the words running through my head.
My life has been a good one
I've been blessed beyond belief.
I just wish my busy mind
would give me some relief.
