Skyscraped Sunsets

We built our love from the ground on up Like a skyscraper our love pierced the sun Our heads caught in the clouds, nothing beats cloud nine You said but the insidious storm gathered his congregation And covered up the heavens, and when the sky turned dark, The sun lost its glow. The Gods weren't stepping in tonight. A perfect storm soon followed, it brought down heavens fire and brimstone Our hold on our love buckled and withstood the blows but gradually gave way, Lightning flashed across the sky destroying everything we built Thunder rained down, on the shelter we took so much comfort in Our love was not strong enough to contest the wrecking wind. We were thrown out, left to the cold. The dim moonlight burning through. Painting a target on our scarred backs. A howl echoed through the rain, a sign that the wolves were coming You took flight the second the cries grew nearer, You left me to my own devices, never giving a second glance back. The very life we promised to protect , lays in tatters, Every piece meaningless and void of any emotion. With each pat and sputter this heart tries to beat, tries to sing to that wonderful music we once made but, Nothing but emptiness escapes it's mouth. Like blistered ruins, it hurt me inside, it hurt so bad. Even worst than when you ripped it in two, When you ripped it right off my sleeve, And wiped your hands clean. But the joke was on you. You thought you washed your hands of me, But every moment when you closed your eyes, You found me lurking in every one of your facades , A constant reminder of what you've done to me..... To us. No matter how many bites of life you'd consume Or how many kisses and passion you'd pursue There'd never be anything as real as me There'd never be anything as true as our love for each other You'd be trapped in a hall of mirrors, torrents of What if's?, Constantly tormenting, your ever wondering heart. And I will be there every time to pick you up and put you back together. Because I can't live with or without you. No I can't live a day without you. Geniuskin
