September Shadows

As September shadows appear All creatures prepare for winter days to come No calendar to tell them of advancing time They just know it was planned that way One by one the leaves of crimson and gold Of dying browns fall from maples, oaks upon the ground A note of regret, a bit of melancholy enters hearts At the first hint that summer is over That winter's voice is soon to be heard The shadows of September whisper Final vows to the dying year But seasons come and go, melting so noiselessly Significant in their silences One into the other That our thoughts keep forward There is a note of permanence in all the moves of nature She goes on, mindful of man and all his dreams of spring awakening

Beautiful imagery, can feel the melancholy that sets in with the cooler weather...I want to thank you also, for taking the time to respond to my husbands poem as well. This is the kind of feedback he needs to keep going. (and writing) thank you so much~Trudy~"

Although the days grow shorter and life forms go into hibernation, I always remember the song "The Rose" which says "Just remember in the winter, far beneath the driven snow, lies the seed that with the sun's love in the springtime becomes the rose." I live in Florida and there is no foliage change in the Daytona area. Yes, the shadows grow longer, but spring is always just around the corner. Excellent write, Carrie! Love, Carolyn

Carrie This is full of much "Instinct" and intuitive insight that we, all creatures must have within the impending seasons of change.I love the last two lines, for they hold much truth. Up here in Alaska if you don't respect Nature, she won't respect you. I'll miss summer but am looking forward to winter's embrace. Beautiful sentimentsl, well penned! Take care Love Light Truth Patricia
