Self reliance

Self reliance

I don’t believe in no religion
Beliefs I have not any
I’ve read the words, of guru types
I have read the books, so many
Of them, written so sincere
By those who’ve seen the light
I read their words, and all of them
My mind filled with delight

But me, I just cannot believe
I have to find ‘my truth!’
And what another guy does say
He’ll have to bring me proof
Till then I’ll follow self reliance
To see what this will bring
Yet I am but a happy man
My heart will always sing.

So when the time does come along
And I know that I must die
I look me to no ghoulish Hell
Or some Heaven in the sky
I have my theories, lots of them
But I’ll wait to see what be
There be no guy in priestly garb
Who will ever frighten me.

I believe in one thing ‘life’
And I have faith in this
I have no fear of death at all
And I do not seek bliss
And every pseudo truth I hear
I’ll not believe at all
I’ll just continue living ‘now’
Cause life is beautiful.

Peter my dear one hell of a good poem, you have expressed yourself completely, I love it, maybe being together all these years your beliefs have rubbed off onto me, but yes I firmly believe what you say and it does make sense just keep on writing as it takes us all into your world and I might add there is nothing wrong with that so yes that is one great poem. Love xxxx

Thank you, my sweet lady, I do tend to rub off on those that love me. But there are not too many of them out there. Usually my my so called wierd way of thinking, challenges too many beliefs, and a lot of folk do not like this at all. But I only write what comes out, and if it comes out without without a lot of thinking then as far as I am concerned it is worth posting....Peter

Peter, I like your openness here. and the fact you love being 71 speaks volumes about you too. I grew up on religion and today am not so sure of things. But one thing I KNOW is that there has to be a creator. It just makes no sense that we are all on this earth for nothing!! I enjoy reading your comments to me. You are a wise man!

Thank you so much Andrea. I write what comes and if it comes it is important to me. The only one thing that any one can be sure of is the certainty of their existence>always look deeply into this, and by doing so I feel the great mystery of life. And it seems to me that with or without a religious belief .'the road goes on forever' I don't believe in such childish conceptions of Heaven and Hell. I say what Jesus said go into your closet. it is all there. Thank you for your comments, my friend....peter

peter - i'm in your camp and i love the way you've expressed your beliefs in this poem - more power to you! ( i wish i could feel as joyous about life as you do, though...)

I do hope that you have the faith and this is just a work about how confusing so many religions can be..There is only one way and one truth but many can not see it..Enjoyed reading this one for it has great rhythm to it..Thanks for the visit to my page..The spider has gone..I hope that it found a place less open to nature..Sara

Sorry Sara, but I honestly don't. If I was to be of religious mind, I would surely turn to Sidartha the Buddha' or Lao Tzu. never to Christianity. I was brainwashed with this as a child. Thank you so much for your comments...peter
