School Gate

The day began like every other day no hint of what was to happen taking the children to school she saw a man near the gates He smiled at her and tipped his cap tall and handsome around her age sadly when she came out he was gone with a sign she walked on to work The sun was blazing down baking all so she took her sandwich outside sitting at a bench in the local park she espied him running in the distance His long legs eating up the ground he soon disappeared from sight longing to meet and talk to him she sat there as long as she dared Reluctantly returning back to work day dreaming about him passed the time at last it was time to collect the kids again he was waiting as they came out She noticed him with two children but when she turned right he went left wondering why she had not seen him before sad that he seemed happily married For the next few days she kept seeing him mainly he was far off in the distance Until one day arriving early at the gates she saw him waiting there for his kids Shyly she stood nearby giving him a smile he walked over and started to chat she soon learned they were his nieces and he was helping out his sister His sister's husband was away fighting and was deployed in the middle east as he was between jobs and she pregnant he helped by taking the girls to school Slowly their feelings turned to love she had lost her husband to war in Iran and he had lost his wife to cancer two years ago against the odds once more they both found love written 05/17/2014 contest Poem you have not entered in a contest 5

SHADOW,, Congratulations, . I hope you don't mind your placement in my contest. Out of past experience, I know many don't like when I don't have a first or second placement. However, this is my judgment, and it only feels right, to place each poem, in the order I would have, as if there had been a first or second placement. Believe me, I'm not taking from you or your winning poem. Hugs, and enjoy my blog, "Conundrum" if you'd like. Have yourself a sweet day. ...always Linda

this is a marvelous story and reminds me of some country songs that deal with this kind of topic: the meeting of lonely hearts. Well done.

Dear Shadow, As the story in the poem unfolded, I went from distrusting this man to loving him too. How kind he was to help out with his nieces. This must be a true story. So beautifully written. I loved every line! Carolyn
