Saying Goodbye

What do you say when someone you love is dying? Do you say be brave, the pain will go away soon? Do you say “I will miss you so”, enhancing the sorrow? Or give them permission to die, telling them you will be fine? Or is it better to wish them God speed to a better place. Assuring them that as long as you live, they will be with you, In your thoughts and memories of the laughter and tears, Shared in two lifetimes forever linked, a bond never broken. Life is always followed by death, both in nature and time. It cannot be avoided so you must accept that everything dies. Whether a tree, a flower or man, we are bound by fate. It is how we affect others that gives our lifetime meaning. So send them on their way as they prepare for the end, With a warm touch of the hand, a kiss on the brow. Kind words of how much they have meant to you As you traveled with them through their journey.
