Reflection of You

Looking in the mirror Is this dark image true Your look is deceiving It doesn't reflect you In search of protection Appearance you neglect You look for reactions You've learned what to expect Who will see the real you Beneath the tattooed skin Your outward appearance Hides the spirit within You don't wish to be hurt You've experienced too much If someone sees beyond There is a heart to touch

That can certainly be the case and then sometimes the look reflects the actual person. So you can never know for sure until you take the time to look a bit deeper. People are so fascinating in all their various personas.

That's one of my pet peeves... when people always associate tattoos with delinquency and druggies. Some people hang their art on the wall... others wear it on their skin. Nice "reflection" here, Rick... very nice.

wow, Richard, after reading this poem.. it makes me think... some makeup is hard to remove, and sometimes tattoos can not cover up a good heart.. enjoyed~ Linda

I really like the way you approached "don't judge the book by by the cover" while including the personal image of how one see's themself in the mirror. This is multi-faceted and all folds together perfectly. Sometime's I'm glad I chose to hide my tattoo and sometimes I wish I didn't really care. OOPS, there goes one of my secrets! Great reading your work :)
