Promise of the Pomegranates

Outside the city where the pomegranates grow, where a heart is free and the sky is wide where time is slow like a rivers flow and the crow that flies is your only guide In orchards wild and row upon row the pomegranates grow in the countryside. Such dreams of peace relieve the crush And guide the sweep of the painter's brush. Outside the city where the four winds blow Prolific with seeds the pomegranates grow And when in winter all covered in snow the promise of spring and summer bestow Outside the city where the pomegranates grow I wait with the wisdom inside that I know That seasons may come, or seasons may go And the winds of change may toss us and blow But in our hearts is a place we may go Outside the city where pomegranates grow First Line Prompt Julia Ward N/ A’d

Suz, this poem really lingers in my heart. Most of your poems are extremely well-written and enticing, but this poem has a simplicity and beauty that is haunting. How can anyone read it and not want to go "outside the city where pomegranates grow?" Thanks so much for writing and sharing this lovely piece of work!

Oh, I would love to see a pomegranate tree .... it's one of my favorite fruits next to pineapple and mango. You paint a vivid and serene picture, with rhymes that are easy-going.

Truly beautiful, Suzanne! This goes to my faves! Very lyrical as it flows smoothly along...a poem to recite aloud and one to savour its aftertaste with pleasure. ~ We have pomegranates and they are a lovely sight when the fruit is growing colourfully in size. ~ Warm regards // paul

Dear Paul: so happy you enjoyed it. I have been busy lately away from the Soup. We are selling our house and moving so not much 'play' time for me. Hope you are well. SuZ

Pomegranates are fruit of promise, and your words poem give words to the feelings of those who have seen an orchard of them, as I did. Thanks, SuZ!
