Pondering
I like to wander down that well worn trail of yesterday
When godly folks only saw the best in you
Trusting because they were raised to be
Until another proved unworthy
Of their trust
Then they would pray
For God to save the lost soul one day
They treated others as they'd like others to treat them
Hearts of mankind were pure and disciplined back then
They were tolerant, understanding, and kind
And to the faults of others, blind
Back then
Folks realized their own imperfections
Accepted those with eccentric personalities
Love was believed to be
The ultimate blessing
That could be offered
To the depth that set souls free
Most knew peace and happiness
Back when
Strangers were treated as friend
Few were judged
Folks understood
And obeyed
The commandments
Given by God above
And carved in stone where Moses stood
I have searched today
And failed
I am saddened to say
To find such unconditional love
It is rarely seen
And I don't want to sound mean
But I wonder whatever happened to love
But most of all
What has happened to cause folks
To turn their backs on God
Who payed the ultimate price
Offered eternal life
And was nailed to a cross
To pay
For sins
We committed
