Polish Woman Made Sure To Cancel Her Own Funeral

She was going to visit her old auntie at 91 years The sweet old aunt lived in her own home   in the town of Ostrow Lobelski in Poland   On the floor she found her body lifeless and cold   Her heart did not beat, and she was not breathing   Medical and police were called   The old auntie Janina Kolkiewicz was declared dead   After she had been in cold storage at a mortuary for 11 hours   she ensured that the employees got themselves a real shock Body bags began to move - she was not dead The niece says that when they came home Janina asked for a hot cup of tea   she felt cold all the way into her body and soul - This is a true story !!! - 16.11.2014 A-L Andresen :) Copyright © All Rights Reserved

Not many of us get the chance to stick a hand out of the grave and scribble a note cancelling our own funeral. Glad she was one of the few. A bittersweet tale.

The niece couldn't have been too young herself. I am surprised the aunt's return didn't give her a heart attack.

We must not think of these things, otherwise it won't be worth the trouble to die! Joking apart...in the old days they used to pass a string from inside the coffin attached to a bell on the outside; were the 'dead' person to awake, s/he would pull the string and ring the bell!! Imagine the reaction!! Poor lady...no wonder she felt cold! /x/ paul

Maybe they should still do that since this still could happen. I often wonder if a person could have so many drugs in their system when in a hospital - that they are thought to be dead - and the drugs don't wear off until it is too late.

What a great tale! Do you believe in an afterlife? Nice description of a heartening story. How are things in Norway. New York is still New York. I went to Israel a few months ago. One day I will get to Europe. Peace & Love Matthew Anish

Yes, I read the story and it is amazing but worse things than that have happened as for instance, in Egypt, some years ago when a man was "resurrected" after his funeral and returned home , unfortunately though, when his wife saw him she...died of a heart attack! A very interesting story dear friend, Anne-Lise, so we all to be on the watch!

Dear Anne-Lise, the title caught my eye as my mother's parents were from Poland (Jankowski). This is not as unusual as it seems. I've heard of such things happening here in the states. Thank goodness she hadn't been embalmed or cremated! Indeed, this is great news! Wishing you success in Vie's contest. Love, carolyn

Anne-Lise, A great story here made all the greater by it being an actual "true story." Well-Done and very well rendered here in free verse. I'm glad she was actually alive and I hope the cup of tea (hopefully warm or hot) helped to warm up here body and soul. Most Excellent!! Best Always, Gary
