Plain As Daylight
I can hear them plain as daylight
brain waves crashing on the shore
along millennia of tired sand
waiting for the hand of God to scour them
collecting bones throughout the land
dry as unforgiving constitutions
once the shake of a welcome hand
do not heed the voice of reason
it will let deception rule
for the truth is not a standard token
pay my way just while I pray
bread of broken incarnation
wine of blood to wipe a slate
once filled with venom clean
why the loss of time to seasons
always hoping for a better next
once the crowded mind had dissipated
looking up from where I stand
courage for a journey forward
I’ve spent too long alone with knowledge
balance sheets of give and take
ledgers crammed with good intentions
a storehouse full of empty threats
fortunes stagger under weights of greed
a need lies faintly crying
