Passionate Smile

I look at you with a knowing smile Sometimes we don't even need our words You prepare your arms for my embrace My smile is transformed into a kiss Sometimes we don't even need our words I cannot take my eyes off of your lips My smile is transformed into a kiss The passion within begins to grow I cannot take my eyes off of your lips Nothing but a slave to my desire The passion within begins to grow We press together feeling the heat Nothing but a slave to my desire You prepare your arms for my embrace We press together feeling the heat I look at you with a knowing smile First attempt at this form, this is a challenging one. Thanks to Manel Gunatillake for introducing me to this form.

I liked the extension... I believe you are well on your way on getting the hang of this form! In a way it comes as no surprise... your skill with the terzanelle is very effortless (and the pantoum has similar repetition requirements)...

you are making waves for your first attempt at this form, richard... pantuoms are hrad to do, but you made it witha delicate theme and rhythmic sway... you may want to strrtch it for more than 2 stanzas, there are some good pantuoms here on soup... well done, my friend!..:)

Thanks, I was following the example on soup so kept it the same length. When I am feeling more ambitious I will try again.

I think you did a good job of it. You chose a sweet topic too. Like Timothy says below here, typically they are four stanzas or longer. But great first pantoum.

Very nicely done, Richard! And yes, I believe you have followed the pattern correctly. Typically they extend to four stanzas of four lines each (three stanzas is fine as well... I just don't see them very often). Some even carry it onto extreme numbers (like 8 or 10 stanzas). Depends on how far you wanna go with it. If you want to read a poem, which in my opinion, is one of the greatest pantoums I've read, check out He Was My Sun by Terry O'leary, here on P-Soup.

I didn't see your foot note. Thank you my dearest you have elevated me. My next poem will be a pantoum as tribute to you.
