One Night
"I'll call tonight."
That is what you said
leaving me asleep in the bed.
The day moved by quickly
faster than I could think
and it was over in a blink.
I watched the clock
and patiently I waited
the sense of fear unabated.
The phone had a dial tone
as there I sat alone
but it never rang.
I'll call tonight
isn't that what you said,
beside the phone, your note I read.
Thank you for your time
the pleasure all was mine
give me a call again.
One night with you
was a fool hearty endeavor
for those seven minutes of questionable pleasure.
