On the Veranda
Since I retired and after my jobs for the day
The list now completed and tools put away
I take time out just to sit in the shady spot,
To muster my thoughts and empty the coffeepot.
Whether it be morning, noon or night,
I sip my coffee let my mind take flight.
I sit and maybe write of things occurred.
To sit and do nothing sounds quite absurd.
My thoughts are allowed to meander along,
While the waterfall gurgles to a cicada's song.
It's a peaceful place just to sit and muse,
See the ships on the Med where people cruise.
Time spent on boats on the sea is not for me.
A landlubber I was born and always will be.
While I sit here reading, the sun catches my eyes,
It's time to go indoors when I start swatting flies.
So off to my computer with coffee I am set,
To write this all down before I forget.
