I spent about a third of my Army career (1987-2007) stationed in West Germany, then Germany.  I've been to Oktoberfest in Munich many times, and to the opening day parade in September at least twice.  Oktoberfest starts in September because of the calendar change a few centuries ago--back then it was in October.  Personally, I don't drink; I came for the atmosphere and the amusement park rides.  I've been to several shows at the Munich beerhalls too, such as at the Hofbrau Haus and the Platzl.

Beer
Barrels
On wagons,
Surrounded by
Bavarian girls
In folkloric costumes-
Waving at all the tourists,
Raising beer steins as they roll by.
The beginning of Oktoberfest....
The opening parade's in September!

A great Etheree, Mark! It says it all! We've have had the pleasure of partaking in these Oktoberfests twice when we visited our son and his family when they were stationed in Germany some years ago. Well written, and all the best in the contest. Sandra

Thanks for commenting Sandra. The Army used to host a German-American fest in Munich back in the 80s, coinciding with the 4th of July. Have some good memories of that too.

Thanks James. Kinda like them too, but strive more for good rhymes as I focus on songwriting more than poetry,
