Oh My Child
Sad eyes without words
Listening to the silence
As it bounces off the walls
My heart hears all you never say
And hopes this message makes it through
Oh my child
From the first time your fingers
Curled around mine
A love I had never known
Became my air
My greatest strength, my weakest will
Would lay the world at you feet
If only I could
Oh my child
To nurture, a mother's gift
To be helpless as the growing pains begin,
The harshest curse
Oh to lift the burden of innocence
And still bathe you in its smell
Powder fresh and chocolate kissed,
Oh my child
There's so much I can't tell you
Too many dangers, I can only warn you
Be strong and know I love the person your are
Whatever sky looks down when you close your eyes
I'll always be there
Drying tears and runny noses
Savoring and forgiving the thorns
As the world receives my roses
Oh my children,
I love you.
