O' Pioneer

~ Someone's calloused hands pounded posts into earth’s clay to circle the west with stretched barbed wire, foresight and faith in the horizon Until fields were ripe with grain, furrowed brows, and with deep seeded pride-- For Russell Sivey's Contest: "Mesh of forms" Tanka/Senryu Carrie Richards 3/19/12

Wonderful imagery, Carrie! I love the line "winds of hope ever blowing". I was thinking of the movie, Far and Away. Then, I read Andrea's comment. That made me laugh. Best wishes in the contest. Rhonda

Great job with this contest, Carrie. today I showed my students that finishing scene of the movie Far and Away, where the pioneers were racing for land in Oklahoma!! this poem reminds me of all the work they had to do once they got their free land.
