My Son Holding His Son

I see my son hold his son
And a smile comes to my face
It seems like only yesterday
I was standing in his place

That boy I taught to play baseball
Has a boy now of his own
Somewhere rounding third to score
My little boy has grown

I held his hand in the emergency room
Getting stitches in his head
And here I watch him hold his child
He is the Daddy now instead

I wonder if I prepared him well
To do a better job than I
I know he feels the love I felt
By that twinkle in his eye

I see my son hold his son
And I am as proud as proud can be
I hope his son is good for him
Like he has been good for me
