My Calamity

I've basked on your rock, You broke my back as I lay, Seeing and feeling your fist, Stole my key, unlocked, Always trying to delay, Although I tried to resist. Stole my key, unlocked, Could never change your routine, Time became my enemy, All memories, blocked, My word, I was just sixteen, These days, my calamity. Laura, my saddest day was a long time ago. Things are much better now! Now THIS poem seems to be about a terrible thing in your young life. I don't know your age today but if the past is an obstacle to your happiness, I hope you will find relief.

I'm only 35 years old, and I wrote this in the perspective of being my cousin who was physically abused. No worries for me! I did see some abuse when I was younger but that's all in the past. A lot of times I write while wearing someone else's shoes, how I would feel if I was them and struggles they faced. It helps me understand the pain he/she went through when I write about it..
