A dim lamp flickers by the side of her cold bed. She shivers slightly draped in sheets of red satin, anticipating the light touch of hands on skin, warm breath on bare nape, lips that brush her slender neck. She shivers slightly as the clock starts striking twelve. Her heart beats faster. Footsteps; the wooden door creaks. She shivers slightly. Holding her breath...she feigns sleep. ---------------------------- Contest: Midnight Poetry Sponsor: Nathan D. Placed 6th

Another home alone and the night thriller, can humanity proffer any solution especially for the aged Paul? The fear of the night, I mean the real night is of great concern and there is a great lesson in your Poem here. Kudos and hugs.

You are right, Kayode; night offers endless creativity, especially to the imaginative writer! This poem has the capability of having a lovely passionate ending, or else one could turn it into one of sexual abuse and horror. ~ All the best, my friend. // paul

Wow! This really has a twist to it. You lead us with one feeling and then the twist at the end. Midnight becomes both hopeful & dark. Interesting verse and enjoyed how you set up the movement here. May your skill see you through with a win for the contest!
