Lifting the Veil

Lifting the Veil You see, Mr Bilton, Sir This trumpet that you gave me Fails my musical sense to stir A guitar would surely save me A guitar is all I yearn Should I whinge and whine and wail Or will His Dominance make mine turn A whiter shade of pale My puny chest draws deep a breath My lips pucker to tweet The notes inside were lost to death Instead of sounding sweet Sorry Sir, embarrassed I For all that I exhale Leaves the effort that I ply A whiter shade of pale Relenting to the obvious He throws at me a strummy It ain’t no Stradivarius But sits well on me tummy I plucks vibrations on the strings My muse it lifts the veil For on his rosy cheek there clings A whiter shade of pale. One of the greatest songs ever written/sung. Annie Lennex & Joe Cocker do it very well. Maybe because they're two of my fav singers :) You won with this poem " right" It couldn't be any other way :) Going to fav !!!

I happened on your comment again. Since I find no new poems to read, I am reading comments I have not seen.haha. I've turned off notifications at my Hotmail so I have no idea any more how many comments are waiting for me here. It was just crowding my box. tt's nice we have so many options here.

Just read your reply on my comment on this one. (I don't usually see comments at the place where I have commented, but I guess a lot of Soupers are doing that now) Anyway, yes, I got the sense that the song was a dream too. NO wonder it makes no sense to me. Dreams rarely do!!)

Yes, I know your M.O. is to comment on your commenters poems as a reponse, which is good. I always try to use this reply facility as it seems more personal, and go look at their poems. Of course your method allows you to get round a lot more, so may be the better option for you. I only have a small circle. Don't give up on those dreams Petal, they are a fantastic source of inspiration.

I think this is the shortest comment I've ever received haha, but those three little words say it all. Thank you my little Desert Orchid, thank you

boy am I ever jealous I could not think of something like this. that was MY song of choice. I have always loved its tune. But after I printed out its lyrics to try to really study it, I realized I did not comprehend a damn thing it was talking about. Good grief. Why can't I get that song??? Anyway, sure love what you did with your poem. it's actually clearer to me than that song!!

This is based on a true story, Mr Bilton was our music Master, a hard man, he was laying on a school concert and this song was in it. I got the better of him with this one as the song was such a hit at the time I'd sorta learnt it on guitar beforehand, enough to recognise it anyway lol. I've always interpreted the lyrics as him dreaming through a drunken night out, I dunno haha
