Leap Year
January slips into the past
As shorter month takes stage to play her part.
Blithely unaware of pain she brings,
Ignoring once again my frozen heart.
He had been looking forward to the spring,
Welcoming its coming with delight.
Jealous of his eagerness for March,
February took him with her in her flight.
I count the days that pass and fear the rest,
Doing my best to speed them on their way.
Furious with me for wishing her demise,
This year she's taunting me with one more day..
