Lead Us Not

We were protecting who What did we try to do We expelled God from school We separated church from state But teachers can still teach hate To the fire adding fuel The legacy we gave our sons Is a generation carrying guns Hate and violence seem to rule We never broke the silence We inherited senseless violence We eliminated prayer We felt a mother's fears We saw a child's tears Doesn't anybody care A world of children love resistant The drums we hear are not too distant Our arms reach out to no one there. This was an early attempt at a social statement years ago.
