A very mighty king resides on high. His face beams down upon us from the sky. We praise him when he’s shining happily, Reflecting in the azure of the sea. King Sun, however, toys with us some days. He hides behind the clouds to make a haze. And other times he likes to prove how bright That he can be compared to Luna’s light. We’ll be in swimsuits, ready for some fun. King Sun has spoiled it though for everyone. He scorches us and makes us pray for rain, But his return we’ll pray for soon again! Without his rays, we’d see much suffering, And so we are indebted to our king. Aug. 22, 2016 for the Couplet time poetry contest of Rick Parise

Hi Andrea, a beautiful write on the golden orb of light. Excellent couplets with such wonderful images painted by your gentle words. That's usually my fault when the sun hides, i do have to ask someone upstairs for a day or twos respite, so the next time in summer king sun does hide you know who to blame. This is a well thought out, well written piece. This has to be a seven and a fave. Hugs....Mike. XX

Sounds like you are praying to RA - the Egyptian sun god. The sixties were a very interesting time and like you I only caught the tail end of them. I entered 2 contests - Voices Israel and Lone Star. Hope springs eternal. I sold an article to a British collectibles magazine and it is coming out in November. Peace & Love Matthew Anish

I remember your first King Sun poem that was a sonnet Andrea. I don't know which one I like better. This is delightful and I hope to see it a top winner. 7 ; )

A lovely poetic tribute full of gratitude for the myriad of ways both 'seen' and 'unseen' that this 'golden orb' blesses us.:-) An endearing piece, creatively penned. My best to you in the contest. bundles of blessings, lynn
