It Was In the Middle of Summer

It was in the middle of summer, And the sun was burning bright and warm. Up in the sky, There was not a cloud in sight; Only the cool summer breeze, That blew around the day. You were standing looking my way, And I don’t know why, But I looked back and saw you, And I thought you called to me. Before I could take a step, A gust of wind pushed me back, And the bright sun blinded my eyes. Then out of the turbulence around me, I saw you come to me and reach out. My heart also reached out to you, And in that magnetic attraction, I could smell the scent of your skin, Though I could not put my hand in yours. I wanted to stay and be with you, But I found myself walking away instead. Why did I not reach out and hold on? Why did I not stay for the sake of love? Then I realized it was like all summer feelings; It was short and sweet, It was good while it lasted, Though I miss it when it’s gone. My summer sun, my summer breeze – Oh, yes, it was in the middle of summer.
