Love it! There is a lot of true history behind this, I also love the beginning line, "Me great, great, great-grand pappy", true to the Irish speak.

OH, this is nice, Doris. I just taught my students the other day about the great famine that killed half the population of Ireland. It's amazing to know that the had still not regained their former populationg even before the year 1990(when I read that article about their population) because half of the suvivors of the famine immigrated away! Good poem. LUv, andrea

Kool Limerick Doris, many people fled Ireland during the potato famine, just as they did in Scotland around the same time to escape from the English >> James

Doris, Is this one fiction or your true ancestor history? That potato famine brought a lot of men to America. (I think, if I'm not mistaken, that is how the Kennedy family ended up here.)

G G Grandpa was one of the lucky ones, it wouldn't have been easy but at least he lived and now you have a little bit of the Irish in you. (Assuming this is factual.) I enjoyed reading this morning...cheers Margaret

Wow, great limerick as a tribute to the Irish potatoe! I believe that without potatoes I would die. My favourite is potato salad with some spicy mustard, vinegar, some hot (not spicy) chicken broth, olive oil, horseraddish, onions, salt, black pepper and a few boiled eggs. Thank you for all your comments!...Gert
