Author's Notes:  This poem, "Into the Arms of Eternity," was written as a Japanese "Choka" (or long poem), rendered in alternating five- and seven-syllable lines, and in this instance, concluding with an extra seven-syllable line.  A Choka is characteristically "unrhymed."  I could have approached my theme using any number of verse and poetic styles, but in the end, I opted to go with the Choka format.  (I originally wrote this poem on February 14, 2015 which was included in my new book released on April 9, 2015.)

My message in "Into the Arms of Eternity" touches on a circumstance where a person is in a deep sleep and actually dreams of his future ascension to Heaven into the arms of God, thus into the arms of Eternity.  Putting myself in this hopeful situation one day, I go on to mention how very nice it would be to have my eternal earthly soul mate one day with me in Heaven as we once were on Earth.  It will be interesting to see how this one day may happen, that is, the walk into the "Arms of Eternity."  (Gary Bateman - May 5, 2015) (Choka)

Into Eternity’s Arms I dream of Heaven . . . A deep dream beyond—no fear! A happiness abounds, yes! Hold me now tightly, And give me your love always. My soul has now come home Lord! I see your kind face— The Angels brought me to you. Your presence is most divine! I see Heaven’s light, Radiant and inviting. My soul is so happy Lord! Love and peace so pure, Harmony abounds always. Ethereal bliss sublime! I wait for my love . . . My Earth soulmate comes one day. A heavenly bond to prize! With her one day here— Our love will be blessed on high, As we walk Heaven’s footpaths— Into eternity’s arms! Thanks Sharon so much for your wonderful comment, rating, and FAV!! Technically, one can just keep adding a three-verse syllable grouping to a Choka practically to infinity--but the end must come eventually one way or another. I liked this Choka write too, as did my wife. It is indeed a wonderful subject to write about!! Best Always, Gary

Thanks Laura. I learn from everyone's poetry I read (and not just all of the vaunted big established authors we all know so well -- Ha Ha!!). I write the "Author's Notes" on my poems so I can keep track as to when, how, and why I wrote a certain poem, and as a record as I begin a final update effort on poems I plan to offer in a book publication. This seems to work for me and it gives the reader a clue to what I was/am thinking when I put a certain poem together. Cheers, Gary
