In Your Shoes
In Your Shoes
I bow my head in shame my dear
For all the wrongs I have done to you
You swore your undying love for me
And I took it all and swore it too
You may wonder at such a thing
As me admitting such deception
But it has only lately come to light
That I discovered this lack of affection
I truly believed my love for you
Matched the love you swore to me
But now I find I just didn’t know
And I simply could not see
We buried you late in November
About seven years ago or so
Now I’ve decided to begin a new life
And the starting has been rather slow
But I finally found a new beginning
And I am thrilled clear to my toes
But in finding this wonderful love
I discovered a fact no one knows.
I now know what you felt for me
It was true love without any ending
For that is the way I feel now
True love without any pretending
I do hope you can forgive me
And I can get rid of this terrible shame
I am glad to know how you felt
Because now I am feeling the same
So rest in peace my dear
I have learned a lesson from you
It is not something I soon shall forget
I know now what it was like in your shoes
