In the Eyes of a Soldier

There I was, Standing in the field, Cocking and firing With no warning to yield I hear the drumming of drums The stomping of feet The yelling of people With a particular beat I want to go home But I just can’t leave So I keep on moving Continuing to grieve I think of my family And my friends at my home I wonder what they are doing While I stare at my chrome Patches of blood Down on my shirt But it doesn’t bother me My soldiers are hurt So I take my turn To stand and be proud I cock my gun In this vicious war cloud I aim and then shoot Hitting my mark But in the sky I saw a bright spark I thought it was over But again and again The bombs keep on coming Killing our men But we will not surrender We will keep moving forward Marching and shooting While continuing onward
