If I Were Poor

If I were Poor would You still reach for Me? Would You offer Me Your Hand to hold? Would You Heal Me as this unfolds? Would You offer Me a bath and cleanse Me? Would You defend Me from Meanness as We see? If I were Poor would You still reach for Me? Could You ever just Be seen with Me as I Be? Could You pray with Me and help Me Sleep? Could You walk with Me and Show that You care? Could You cloth Me and show Me You share? If I were Poor would You still reach for Me? Should You help keep a roof over My Head? Should You furnish a room with a bed? Should You Hug Me and hold Me tight? Should You Protect Me from a horrific fight? If I were Poor would You still reach For Me? The Old Beggar consoled with Two Rich Men that pondered. The Two Rich Men just walked away and moved on yonder... Then The Old Beggar cried in Mercy,"I just begged You to try..." The Two Rich Men showed no remorse and never answered His Cry... Then The Old Beggar just stopped and stared when He was apposed... There The Old Beggar turned away with His Beautiful Angel Wings Exposed! I Changed the verse by inserting a question every verse.Then The Beggar Himself became an Angel that was hidden the whole time the ballad was told.

TY For Wonderful Comment but it could Be taken Down Stairs too, eh??? It just depends on The "Gift" of Generosity From With-In... Poet Pal-Charlene P.S. I go for Surgery on The 17th of February and hopefully after that I'll be back to writing Poetry. Nothing Major Poet Friends. Their just making Me feel Better-no worries.

Dennis- TY kindly Sir...It often comes to Me after living Life on Life's Terms...What a Wonderful Sincere Comment most need at a time like now in My Life.. Currently I am very pain stricken by most dilemmas I have right now. My Husband is ill at this time and We are being Financially ruptured by current living conditions and medical Bills I reach out to the Town I live in and there is no help. Current Status is another Dilemma The transmission went on My New car ta boot...All seems well as I pray for Miracles to Occur and Dreams to Blossom from All this.

This is lovely and heart-touching, Charlene. Maybe that is why we enjoy stories in which the poor character falls in love and marries the rich one. There are many angels standing right beside us, but very often we do not even notice their presence. Well done, especially the final line. // paul

Oh Yes Friend They do help Me.I have wonderful Doctors and They are very inspiring towards Me.I have a Philosophy.There is nothing wrong with searching for hopes of becoming a more positive Person and sometime if it takes sharing to do that with Anyone...Then more power to that Person that is trying.Most of All I believe in My Doctors because They believed in Me.TY for such a very welcoming and wonderful Comment.I do appreciate all that You said friend.Nice meeting You here on Soup.Your Friend-Char

This is true.. how we treat others reflects who we are.. though nowadays lots have changed still when confronted with such situations, and help is necessary it has always been stressed to help... as one says be an answer to someone's prayer.. :) wonderful message Char.. this reminded me of another story in which Jesus is the poor beggar and he asks, "Do you know Jesus?" and of course, the ignorant and cruel folks do not feed him or prove they really know Him. Good message!

This was a very touching write, Charlene. It's so sad when poverty not only robs of monetary benefits but also self dignity and worth due to the reactions of the affluent. Yes, angels in disguise have often visited us and been turned away. Great write.

It is so sad how a rich person can look at a poor one, and not see a human being who is desperately in need.... I came from a poor background, and my family and I always appreciated anything that was given to us. I was lucky enough to meet some of those angels in disguise.... You did a really great job on this poem, Charlene! Congratulations on your win!

I can never find where I have won,lol! Did I win on this Poem too?Anyways It is very sad indeed...The Starvation levels and Poverty Levels are growing each and Every Day.Those Poor Children caught in war.Yet if We sit back and do nothing...We are doomed too.It is a vicious catch 22.If We allow Evil to consume Us...We will be consumed....Thank God there are Angels We meet along the way...I do not Myself know where I would Be today with out The Angels in My Life...I have to pray over this Poem thou.Starving Children is very hard to accept and food doesn't exactly fall from the sky...

"Others have everything" that statement goes further besides money. Some people are lucky to have a full compliment of family members while a large percentage grows up in broken families. We take that for granted nowadays. I love the poem though
